Conversions allow you to record key milestones your subscribers take, like making purchases or starting a trial with your software, for example. This article will teach you how to setup new conversions and how to record them.

Create a new Conversion

Go to Analytics > Conversions:

Click the “Configure a New Conversion” button.

Use the modal to configure your conversion:

Here’s an overview of what each field is used for:

  • Name (required): Be descriptive when giving the conversion a name. For example, a name like “Made a purchase” might be used to track purchases.
  • URL (optional): Use this field to record your conversion when a subscriber lands on a specific URL, such as a post purchase “thank you” page (Drip JS must be installed).
  • Default Value (optional): Enter the value of the conversion.
  • How should we count conversions?: If you only want to record your conversion once for a single subscriber, set it to “Count a maximum of one conversion per person”. Otherwise, set it to “Count every conversion”.


How to record Conversions

Record the conversion via Automation

With Automation, Conversions can be recorded in Workflows and Rules.

To record your conversion, use the “Record a conversion” action in Workflows and Rules.

To do this in your workflow, click the “+” icon wherever you would like to record the conversion:

Add an Action:

Select the “Record a conversion” action:

The name of your conversions will show up in the “Which conversion?” drop-down. Select the appropriate conversion.

Record the conversion via URL

To record a conversion via URL, you must install your Drip JavaScript snippet on that web page.

If the URL will be generated by a third party platform that redirects successful transactions to a thank you page, for example, you will need to make sure that you can install third party JavaScript onto that page. You will also most likely need to enable Cross-Domain Tracking in your Drip account.

When configuring the conversion, remember to add the URL in the setup modal:

Record the conversion via JavaScript API

You must have your JavaScript snippet installed in order to use Drip’s JS API.

Record your conversion using Drip’s JavaScript API by calling the “track” method. 

Here is the snippet you will need:

_dcq.push(["track", "your conversion name", { value: 2000 }]);

Don’t forget to replace “your conversion name” with the name of your conversion, exactly as it was specified in the “Name” field of the setup modal.

API requests are executed asynchronously, so you may safely place them anywhere on the page (even above the Drip snippet).


Conversion Dashboard

The Conversion Dashboard is where you will find useful information about the conversions you are recording.

To see your conversion dashboard, go to Analytics > Conversions > and select the conversion you would like to view.

You’ll notice you are able to break down your conversion based on 5 different levels:

  • Account Level allows you to see conversion stats taking all of your subscribers into account.
  • Broadcast Level allows you to select a specific broadcast email to see how it is performing in regards to the conversion.
  • Campaign Level allows you to select a specific campaign email to see how it is performing in regards to the conversion.
  • Tag Level allows you to select a tag within your account to see how subscribers holding that tag are converting.
  • Automation Level allows you to select a specific one-off email to see how that email is performing in regards to the conversion.

Under the “Subscribers” in the conversion dashboard, you will see a chronological order of subscribers that have fired the conversion, along with the last email they received from Drip prior to making the conversion.

You can modify the conversion settings under the “Settings” tab of the conversion dashboard.
