A rule allows you to automatically perform actions based on various triggers. Let’s create a new rule and have a look at what we can do with it.
You can rename your rule by clicking the upper left. A rule starts off in Draft mode, but you can Activate it from the drop-down and it will begin running.
If you ever want to delete a rule, choose Archive from the same drop-down menu.
In rules there are triggers and actions. Let’s take a look at a few triggers you can use from the Choose a trigger drop-down.
One is Subscribed to a campaign. You can create a rule that says: whenever someone is subscribed to a specific campaign, let’s perform an action.
You could apply a tag to subscribers in that segment.
You could also subscribe them to an additional campaign.
Or you could remove them from a different campaign if you don’t want them to be subscribed to too many campaigns at once.
You could also create a custom event. For example, if someone started a trial, you could automatically subscribe them to a trial email sequence.
You would then save and activate it.
When this event happens it will trigger someone being subscribed to the trial email sequence.
You can also can add filters. For example if someone purchased something and this is communicated through a Gumroad integration, you can set a filter that says that the product ID must equal a certain value in order to make this trigger.
You can apply triggers to very specific segments you’ve already created. Or you can build a new segment.
And you can add additional triggers so that if any of these triggers run, then all of the actions on the right will be performed.
Rules are very powerful. Elsewhere in this knowledge base we’ve provided you with rule blueprints to give you ideas of how you can apply rules to your specific situation. I recommend that you take a look at them to get an idea of how to put rules into action.
