Actions occur as the result of a trigger setting an automation sequence into motion. They can be used in Workflows, Basic Rules, and Bulk Operations. Some action examples include subscribing a subscriber to an email campaign, applying a tag, sending a one-off email, amongst many other choices. In fact, there are 18 different actions to select from.

As you can see, a subscriber kicks off the workflow after they submit an opt-in form (trigger). Then, a tag gets applied(action). Also, you might have noticed that in your workflows, the actions are represented in blue.
The action modal
The action modal houses all of Drip’s built-in actions, along with particular actions coinciding with a few other providers that integrate with Drip.
For example, if you want to use one of Drip’s native actions, select Drip as the provider in the uppermost left drop-down in the action modal. Then, the drop-down directly to the right will allow you to select any one of Drip’s actions.
Actions are usable in these features:
To set up an action step in your workflow, simply click the “+” icon wherever you would like the action to happen in the automation sequence.
When the modal appears, opt to add an “Action” step. You can also add multiple actions, one after the other, by repeating the above step.
Then, configure the action modal to perform any of the offered actions.
Actions cannot be positioned directly next to triggers, or in places where only triggers are allowed. For instance, you cannot begin a workflow with an action.
In Basic Rules, the action step is always configured under the “What actions should we perform” heading (Step 2).
You can add multiple actions to occur by clicking the “Add another action” button and setting a new action.
When configuring your bulk operation, all available actions can be accessed under the second step of the operation.
You can perform multiple actions in your operation by clicking the “Add another action” button.
Optionally, you can avoid triggering an automation when running a bulk operation for these actions:
- Apply a tag
- Remove a tag
- Set a custom field value
To do this, simply toggle the “Skip automations triggered by these actions” to the on position.
Apply a tag
Apply a given tag to the subscriber.
Delete the subscriber (and all their data) from your account.
Flag as a prospect
If lead scoring is enabled, begin lead scoring for this subscriber.
Move from one campaign to another
Move the subscriber from one campaign to another.
Record a conversion
Record a conversion for the subscriber.
Record a custom event
Record a custom event for the subscriber.
Remove a tag
Remove a given tag from the subscriber.
Remove from a campaign
Remove the subscriber fro ma particular campaign.
Remove from a workflow
Remove the subscriber from a workflow.
Restart a campaign
Restart the subscriber from the beginning of a particular campaign.
Send a campaign
Add the subscriber to a particular campaign.
Send a notification email
Send a notification with information about this subscriber.
Send a one-off email
Send a special email to the subscriber.
Send an HTTP post
Send a JSON or Form Encoded request to a URL.
Set a custom field value
Set a custom field for the subscriber.
Start a workflow
Add the subscriber to a workflow.
Unflag as a prospect
If lead scoring is enabled, stop lead scoring for this subscriber.
Unsubscribe a subscriber
Unsubscribe the subscriber form a campaign or all mailings.
